The silver Ferrari 275GTB/C #9007 only completed one lap driven by Clemente Ravetto, number 156 the works Ferrari Dino 206S #004 fared no better, G¸nther Klass crashing it on lap one. The other Ferrari is the Scuderia Filipinetti 330P3/412P #0848 of Herbert M¸ller/Jean Guichet that also retired, although M¸ller set the race fastest lap.

75 cars started the Nurburgring 1000 kms and this picture starts with the 17th fastest Ford-France Ford GT40 (1003) of Henri Greder/Jean-Michel Giorgi that will finish 5th. Alongside is Heini Walter's Ferrari 250LM (5905) that he shared with Peter Ditzler and the number 82 Team VDS Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ 2 of Serge Trosch/Teddy Pilette. Two more Ford GT40s follow, the Ed Nelson/Peter de Klerk 1009 and Colin Crabbe's 1021 with its distinctive roof blister to accommodate Crabbe's height, co-driven by Roy Pierpoint. Further up the line can be glimpsed Paul Vestey's dark blue Ferrari 275GTB/C (9035) the ex-Maranello Concessionaires 1966 Le Mans car.
