This privately entered Ferrari 250LM (6313) of Belgians Pierre Dumay and Gustave Gosselin were leading Le Mans 1965 at midday Sunday until Dumay ran over some debris on Mulsanne that burst a rear tyre causing bodywork damage that dropped them to 2nd place. So near and yet so far.

After all the works Ferraris and Fords retired at Le Mans victory was left to the NART entered Ferrari 250LM of Jochen Rindt/Masten Gregory and Ed Hugus, the last ever Ferrari Le Mans win. Following Rindt is the Hopkirk/Hedges MGB.

This is the Giancarlo Baghetti/Mario Casoni Ferrari Dino 166P (0834) with an unusual coupe roof. It only lasted 2 laps before retiring with engine problems.

Amidst all the heavy metal mayhem Porsche finished 4th and 5th at Le Mans. This is the 5th placed 2000 GT class winning factory 904GTS (091) of Gerhard Koch and Anton Fischhaber that completed 320 laps.

Ford's mechanical carnage at Le Mans included the Daytona Cobras as well and only the Jack Sears/Dick Thompson car (CSX2299) survived despite the damage shown here caused by a collision with an Alfa Romeo. Thompson approaches Tertre Rouge followed by the Rover-B. R. M. on his way to 8th place and 1st in the GT 5000 class.

The business end of Ford's new MkII at Le Mans reveals the stock car racing 427 cubic inch (7 litre) engine that offered a relatively modest 450 bhp but huge torque. Two were entered but they were effectively experimental and neither raced again
